iPod Touch, not iPhone, Is What Got My Money. (It’s What I Want.)

I’d been on the fence about an iPhone for weeks. It looks so sweet and I’ll probably end up with one at some point, but the iPod Touch seems to have filled every “techy” itch that the iPhone filled and got rid of the sticking point for me, the AT&T phone part. It looks sweet. (If you’re wondering what song I doctored into the above photo, check it out here.)

I am worried about Apple and imperial over-reach.  Over the past couple of weeks I have been to each NY store in an attempt to get something minor on my daughter’s iBook repaired. We are ProCare members and they are better than a fancy restaurant at honoring reservations, but in general, I don’t think Apple’s Genius Bars have kept up with Apple’s recent onslaught of consumer products. More people seem to be waiting absurd times. It’s painful to get an appointment and more people seem to be leaving the Genius Bar disappointed (as I have 3 times now) than satisfied. Also, some of Apple’s hubris—non-replaceable batteries, etc. is, I predict going to bite them in their shiny ass. Here’s my question—are they still putting the customer first? Can they handle their success?

COMMENT:
You hit the nail of the head with Apple’s hubris. I’ve always been an Apple fan, but their recent actions are really starting to feel as if they don’t understand “us” anymore. Sure they make great products, but this recent iPhone update for example, that made bricks out of iPhones that had been modified to work on other networks reeks of arrogance. This is how consumer backlash begins. Watch out Apple.

Their saving grace is the lack of choice when it comes to well designed must-have products, but it’s clear from all the gadgets that keep getting introduced that the potential for a new killer device is growing every day.
